Castalla presents the program of the First Women’s Week

3-March-2020
  • The Councillor for Social Welfare, Maite Gimeno, has highlighted the holding of talks, workshops and a march, among other activities

The Social Welfare Department of the Castalla Town Hall has presented the First Women’s Week. The program brings together a set of activities in different parts of the municipality until Sunday March 8, Women’s Day. “From the City Council we want a joint, participatory society, where women occupy the place that corresponds to them in society, with the rights and values that this implies” said the councillor for Social Welfare, Maite Gimeno.

The coordinator of Social Services, Mónica Martínez, has broken down the programme of activities, which consists of a series of talks and workshops. The program ranges from lectures on healthy eating to self-defense workshops, including activities that use art to enhance other factors.

Gimeno has shown herself to be aware of the importance of celebrating these days, but has wondered if one day we will not celebrate Women’s Week, “because we will have reached effective equality of rights between men and women”. However, the councillor added that “in today’s society it is significant and important to celebrate the 8th March”.

On the other hand, the consistory agrees with the work done by the Generalitat. According to Gimeno, this institution “is betting on equality between men and women, helping the city councils a lot. We are very grateful”.

To conclude, the councilwoman has called on people to participate in the scheduled events “we will continue to fight for equality from Social Services and the City Council, with the support of Conselleria”.

The Councillor for Social Welfare has invited families to participate in the march ‘For us’ on Sunday 8 March, despite the fact that it will be held the day after mid-year of the Moors and Christians of Castalla, “because we all want equality”. When the march is over, refreshments will be provided and then the manifesto for International Women’s Day will be read.
