  • The fireworks of the project ‘Vuelve la luz’ (Light returns) will be shot in five cities of the province and will have a higher magnitude than usual

Castalla will be one of the five cities in the province of Alicante which will host, on the 6th of December, the pyrotechnic show ‘Constitution Day: The Light Returns’, by the Provincial Council, to commemorate the 1978 referendum in which the Magna Carta was approved. The Mayor of Castalla, Antonio Bernabeu, declared that “it is relevant that the town has been chosen from all the possibilities to host this activity”. In this sense, the first councillor added that the choice of Castalla “gives us the opportunity to enjoy an unprecedented pyrotechnic show in our city, of a higher calibre than what we are used to”.

The provincial entity has subsidised this project in Castalla and also in Orihuela, Teulada, Alicante and Xixona. The aim is to support the fireworks industry in the Valencian Community and help it recover from the economic crisis generated by the impact of the Covid-19. The activity is carried out in collaboration with the Association of Pyrotechnic Manufacturers of the Valencian Community (PIROVAL).

For the pyrotechnic show, the use of effects such as coloured and thunderbolts, palm trees, different figures and sets or the final sound thunderbolt, among many others, is planned. In total, it is estimated that 228.54 kilograms of gunpowder will be used in Castalla and that the fireworks will last 571 seconds, about 10 minutes of pyrotechnics with 983 units of fire. The cost of the project, fully assumed by the Diputación de Alicante, amounts to 18,000 euros. For its part, the Consistory has decided to locate the infrastructure needed to shoot the fireworks on the site located between the Auditorium and the CEIP Rico Sapena.

The Mayor of Castalla recalled the double objective of ‘Volver la luz’ (Light returns), to “symbolically celebrate an important day in the state holiday calendar such as Constitution Day and, at the same time, to support a specific industry that is going through a bad time with the health crisis, in the absence of shows of this kind”. On the other hand, Bernabeu stressed the need to respect the current health and safety regulations to avoid the proliferation of the coronavirus. In accordance with this, he has called on his neighbours to “watch the show from home, avoiding unnecessary meetings and crowds of people who could put Castalla’s public health at risk”.
