Castalla Town Council has prepared a full programme of activities to celebrate LGTBIQ+ Pride Day with ‘Castalla Entiende’. The Consistory plans to illuminate the Torre Grossa and the façade of its castle on the occasion of this day. The events will take place between Friday 25th and Monday 28th June, when this day is internationally commemorated with the aim of fighting for equality and dignity for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people.

The councillor for Social Welfare, Maite Gimeno, declared “the need to make visible the sexual diversity that exists in society and the freedom of our neighbours to live and love as they see fit”. The councillor added that “with the programme we have drawn up we also aim to inform and raise awareness among citizens of this reality that has always existed and that we must normalise”.

First of all, on Friday morning, the rainbow flag, representative of the collective, will be placed on the balcony of the Town Hall. In the afternoon, at 6 p.m., there will be a presentation of the association ‘Ponts d’Igualtat’, in the Espai Jove of the Casa de Cultura. To end the day, at 21.00 the Castle will be illuminated with the Pride colours. In addition, the Municipal Library will have a purple point with a table of books on LGTBIQ+ themes.

Likewise, on Saturday 26th there will be an information and wristband distribution point at 10.00 a.m. at the weekly street market. Then, between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., there will be a badge workshop in Calle Doctor Fleming and the painting of a pedestrian crossing, organised by the Red Cross. On Sunday, meanwhile, it will be the turn of the themed cinema with the screening of the film ‘Call me by your name’ for all audiences.

Finally, the closing of the programme in Castalla will take place on Monday 28th June, International LGTBIQ+ Pride Day. At 12.00 pm there will be a reading of the manifesto in favour of Inclusive Sport, by the Councillor for Sports, Román Sáez at the gates of the Town Hall.
