The municipal velodrome of Castalla will host the III Sports Gala to reward local athletes

• The Sports Council will recognise the most outstanding local clubs and athletes of the past three seasons

Castalla Town Council has announced that it will hold the III Gala del Deporte 2021 on 30 July at the municipal velodrome. The aim of this initiative of the Sports Department is to recognise the work of local athletes in these difficult times marked by the impact of Covid-19. The councillor in charge, Román Sáez, stated that “our aim is to recognise the work that all the sports clubs have done during the years of the pandemic, a circumstance that has hit them especially hard and has slowed down their activity for a time”.

Thus, the event will try to make the efforts of all the local entities visible. For this reason, the Consistory will award the following categories: best male and female athlete (between 18 and 35 years old), best male or female veteran athlete (over 35 years old), best school athlete (up to 18 years old) and best athlete in adapted sports. In this sense, Sáez acknowledged “the important role played by sports organisations, with their enormous work in educating the youngest members of the population in values”. In addition, insisted the Sports Councillor, “the athletes carry the name of our city wherever they compete, and represent a source of pride for the whole town”.

On the other hand, the event will take place in the central track of the municipal velodrome, an outdoor space suitable for holding the gala safely and minimising the impact of Covid-19. During the ceremony, it will be possible to watch previously recorded interviews with local residents who are part of the clubs. In this way, attendees will be able to hear the testimony of the nearly 20 sports clubs that make up the capital of the Foia de Castalla.

Those persons or entities interested in registering may submit their application within ten days of the publication of the rules through the electronic headquarters of the Town Hall or at the Municipal Registry.

Previously, the Sports Gala had been held biannually in 2015 and 2017. However, it could not be held in 2019 and not in 2020 either, due to the pandemic caused by the coronavirus. Thus, the third edition has had to wait until 2021 to see the light of day. A ceremony that will pay tribute to the effort, the trajectory and the merits of the sportsmen and women of Castalla during these complicated times we are living.
