Castalla finishes the works of the CEIP Rico Sapena for a value of 786,821 euros within the Plan Edificant
- The construction of the new building provides the school with more changing rooms, offices, a gymnasium and its own assembly hall
Castalla Town Council has completed work on the Rico Sapena Infant and Primary School (CEIP) for a value of 786,821.91 euros, as part of the Generalitat Valenciana’s Building Plan and fully covered by the Regional Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport. The Mayor of Castalla, Antonio Bernabeu, highlighted that “with the construction of the new building, the school now has more changing rooms, offices, a gymnasium and its own assembly hall to provide better education for the children of our city”. The new building will be ready for the start of the 2020-2021 school year.
According to the assessments of the Town Planning Councillor, Raquel Guill, the government team has prioritised these improvements because “until now the school did not have these facilities and, on occasion, the children had to go to the sports centre to do gymnastics”. In this sense, the mayor has argued that “with the new facilities, the center can offer more services to students, without depending on other infrastructure.
The construction of the Rico Sapena has been completed in nine months, as initially planned in the project, since it started at the end of October 2019. In this sense, the Councillor for Town Planning has stated that “the construction has been carried out quickly and without any kind of setback”. The work has ended with a total built area of 637.87 square meters, which have been raised on the site occupied by the building that was demolished in 2015, after the Ministry detected serious structural damage. With these works, the Consistory finishes the second of the three phases of the Building Plan in Castalla.
The Building Plan in Castalla, one of the most important in the Comunitat
The investments of the Plan Edificant in the capital of La Foia de Castalla constitute one of the most important projects of the Comunitat Valenciana, with an investment close to 6.6 million euros. In the municipality, the Plan Edificant is divided into three different phases or lines of action.
The first investment is the rehabilitation of the buildings of the CEIP Rico Sapena and the Enric Valor Secondary Education Institute (IES), which has already been completed. These renovations have involved an investment of 293,000 and 94,000 euros, respectively.
The second is the construction of the new building at the Rico Sapena, equipped with dressing rooms, offices, a gymnasium and an assembly hall. As specified above, the amount of this action is equivalent to 786,821.91 euro.
Finally, the third phase of the plan corresponds to the construction of the new school CEIP Nº2 in the area known as ‘La Llauría’, near the Ronda Foia. The new centre represents the most important investment of the Regional Ministry and it reaches 4.4 million euros. The new school will be built on a 7,500 square metre plot of land owned by the Town Hall, which has been classified as an endowment site and ceded to the Generalitat. At present, the building is in the drafting stage of the project.
