Castalla carries out an awareness day on waste recycling in the mobile eco-park

  • The activity, organised together with the Consorcio de Residuos Crea, aims to raise awareness and educate on the environment

Castalla Town Hall and the Consorcio de Residuos Crea held yesterday an environmental awareness day on waste recycling in the mobile eco-park. The organisation’s communication technicians explained to the residents of Castalla who came to Calle Colón the most appropriate ways of dealing with each type of waste. The activity, within the policy of environmental awareness and education carried out by the Council, was organised by the Department of the Environment and the consortium.

Those responsible for the consortium entity reminded citizens and users of the Ecopark that they can use it to carry all types of electrical or electronic waste, household appliances, computer equipment, printer toner, glass, light bulbs, batteries, used oil, etc. In this sense, the Councillor for the Environment, Asun Vera, stressed that “we are working to educate our people in recycling and environmental awareness. Therefore, making good use of the mobile eco-park is the solution for all kinds of waste for which there is no specific container on the public highway”.

Likewise, during the activity, those present were reminded of which container to throw each type of waste into: yellow is for light containers, green for glass, blue for paper and cardboard and brown for organic waste. In addition, there are containers for the separate collection of waste oil or textile material. Finally, in the grey container the rest of the waste must be thrown away, that is to say, those wastes which, due to their type, cannot be sent to the recycling containers.

From the Consortium they recalled that “making good use of selective collection containers and fixed and mobile eco-parks helps to increase the percentage of waste we can recycle. At the same time, it reduces the amount of improper waste, i.e. that which is deposited in the wrong container and which is not valid for recycling”.

Asun Vera, the head of the Environment Department, said that the intention of the government team is to continue with this type of educational activities. The mayor said that “we plan to implement a composting project and a recycling workshop in our local schools together with the Consorcio de Residuos Crea, respecting all the hygiene, safety and social distancing measures in force”.

The Consorci de Residus Crea is the public entity responsible for the management of the waste generated in 14 municipalities in the regions of l’Alcoià, and the Alto y Medio Vinalopó. The municipalities in this area of influence, in addition to the capital of La Foia de Castalla, are Banyeres de Mariola, Beneixama, Biar, Campo de Mirra, Cañada, Elda, Monóvar, Onil, Petrer, Pinoso, Salinas, Sax and Villena. All of them are part of its management, together with the Alicante Provincial Council and the Valencian Government.

Castalla Town Hall would like to remind you that the Ecoparque Móvil is in our town every Wednesday between 12 and 3 p.m. at Calle Colón, 7.
