Theft for the second week in a row in the Castalla sports centre

  • The local police have assured that they will pursue the culprits to make them answer for their actions and the City Council is asking for the cooperation of the public to clarify the facts

Castalla Town Council has reported the second consecutive attempted burglary at the municipal sports centre in just a couple of weeks. The thieves, who have entered through the windows on both occasions, have vandalised the facilities and taken a new laptop. Councillor for Sports, Román Sáez, said that “repairing all the damage is going to cost the Town Council around 3,000 euros, money that comes out of the pockets of the whole town and which we can’t spend on other much more necessary matters”.

The thieves broke in for the first time on 26 January through a window, which they smashed to gain access. During the burglary, the looters took a recently acquired laptop valued at 635 euros and broke some of the furniture. In this regard, it should be noted that in 2019 another laptop was stolen from the same sports centre.

Castalla Town Council has reported a second attempted burglary. Again, in the early hours of 2 February, the assailants broke in through the window with the aim of gaining access to the sports technician’s office. However, on this occasion they were unable to take anything of value as they were forced to flee, once they were surprised by the alarm when they were inside the building. However, they managed to smash two windows and caused serious damage to the partition wall and the door of the office, through which they tried to enter the municipal premises.

The local police have also assured that they will vigorously pursue the culprits to ensure that they are held accountable for the damage caused and that such deplorable acts are not repeated. For its part, the Town Hall has appealed for the cooperation of anyone who has seen or heard anything related to the robbery in order to clarify the facts as quickly as possible.
