Castalla programmes three days of exhibitions, raffles and music with the ‘ExpoArt and music with the celebration of the ‘ExpoArt Patchwork’

Castalla Town Council has programmed three days dedicated to the art of patchwork, a form of sewing which consists of sewing pieces of fabric together to create a larger design, under the title ‘Expoart Patchwork’. During the 7th, 8th and 9th of October, the town will host exhibitions, raffles and music related to this discipline in the Casa de Cultura. In addition, this year the event coincides with the Day of the Comunitat Valenciana, which is celebrated throughout the territory on 9 October and also has special activities in the town.
Expoart Patchwork’ has been organised by the Consistory through the Department of Tourism together with ‘Dona i Fils Macu’ and with the collaboration of Costa Blanca, GVA Turisme and the Valencian and Spanish patchwork associations. The exhibition will feature works by Amparo Brotons, Macu from ‘Dona i Fils’, Tina Gómez, Paloma González from ‘Oliva Patch’, Ana Telier and Maika García from ‘Tot i més’.
The councillor responsible for the area, Maite Gimeno, stressed that “we invite the whole population to participate in the activities we have programmed and attend the exhibitions of ‘ExpoArt Patchwork’ to know the art behind these creations made by the women of Castalla”.
As for the programme, the official opening of the exhibition ‘ExpoArt Patchwork’, in homage to Moly Ramírez of ‘Costuretas Moly’, will take place on Friday 7 October at 19:30. The exhibition can be visited in the Casa de Cultura until 21:30. The Santa Cecilia concert is also scheduled to take place at 20:30 in the Municipal Auditorium. Throughout the weekend there will also be an exhibition of lithophany lamps in ‘la pecera’ (the fishbowl) in the municipal park.
On Saturday 8th October the exhibition will be open from 10:00 to 14:00 and from 17:00 to 20:00. In addition, at 13:00 there will be a prize-giving ceremony for the participating exhibitors and a wine of honour. As for musical performances, at 18:00 there will be a performance by Franvic the Magician on the esplanade of the Casa de Cultura, and from 00:00 there will be a concert by the ‘Germans Brothers’, who will perform pop and rock versions.
Finally, on Sunday the exhibition can be visited in the morning, between 10:00 and 14:00. At midday, at 12:00 noon, there will be a draw for the ‘Dona i fils’ patchwork quilt in the Casa de Cultura. Local children will be able to enjoy children’s activities and inflatables from 10:00 until 14:00.
On the other hand, as part of the festivities for the 9th of October, the Day of the Valencian Community, the traditional paella cook-off will be held in the municipal park. Those interested should sign up at the Tourist Office and bring the necessary items to make the paellas. The sand and firewood will be provided by the Town Hall. The day will end with a concert by ‘El Sogall’ at 19:00 in the Auditorium.
