The school year starts at CEIP nº2 in Castalla with 150 students and 17 teachers

• The aim of the works was to lighten the load of pupils at CEIP Rico Sapena, eliminate the barracks and thus improve the education provided in the classrooms

The Infant and Primary School (CEIP) nº2 in Castalla is ready for the start of the 2023-2024 school year. The new school has already received the works and the school management expects the school year to start normally. The current government team of Castalla has thanked all the previous local corporations that, with their work, have made possible the completion of these new facilities.

In this sense, the mayor of Castalla, Jesús López, has declared that “it is an achievement of our city that the CEIP nº2 starts the academic year in September with normality”. The mayor thanked “the work of previous councils, as well as the effort made by the school’s teaching staff, the councillor for Education, Judit Seva, and the municipal works brigade, who have worked hard over the summer to adapt the school’s spaces and ensure that everything is ready for the first day of class”.

For their part, the school’s management have reported that CEIP nº2 expects to have a total of approximately 150 children and 17 teaching staff. In the absence of some computer equipment and other secondary issues, the school is ready to start classes.

The school’s director, Agustí Fuentes, emphasised that “thanks to the new facilities at CEIP nº2, we are helping CEIP Rico Sapena to lighten the load in terms of pupils, as it is a school that has grown too much, and to eliminate the barracks, so that both schools will be able to offer a better education to the children of Castalla”. The head of the school has highlighted the value of “the new facilities, modern and adequate, which the town’s pupils will be able to enjoy”. According to Fuentes, “both the management and the teaching staff are looking forward to starting the course, getting to know our pupils and that they too can bring this school to life”.

The centre plans to make a ‘friendly entrance’ to the school year, and give the students and their families the opportunity to get to know the new facilities during an open day, with the teachers, who will show them the different classrooms and areas of the school.

CEIP nº 2, a temporary name for the new school in Castalla
The school will open its doors under the name of CEIP nº2 in Castalla. However, it is foreseen that this will not be the definitive name. To this end, the Town Council, in collaboration with the school management, intends to open a participatory process – which is yet to be defined – to collectively choose the final name for the new school.
