Castalla City Council is ready for the celebration of the V Week Against Gender Violence, between 20 and 26 November. The Department of Social Welfare has prepared a full program of activities, coinciding with the commemoration of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, on Saturday, November 25.

The councilor of Social Welfare, Magda Berenguer, explained that “we have worked hard to present a program with activities that reach the whole society, so that citizens are aware of the problems involved in gender violence and have information and tools to end this social scourge.” In this sense, Berenguer has detailed the programming with the coordinator of the Social Services area, Monica Martinez.

For starters, between November 8 and 30 you can visit the exhibition Social Humor IV ‘No sonrías a los malos tratos’ in the Casa de Cultura. In addition, the Municipal Library has arranged the ‘Violet Shelf’, a selection of books with thematic on gender violence that can be consulted between 20 and 24 November. Also, this day, on November 24, will take place the edition of the Violet Reading Club for this month, focusing on the work ‘Consent’ by Vanessa Springora.

However, the most important day is Saturday, November 25. The 25N day will begin at 10.30 am with the self-defense workshop in the Espai Jove of the Casa de Cultura. Between 10.00 and 13.00 hours will be the traditional badge workshop next to the Red Cross information booth. At 11:30 am there will be the reading of the institutional manifesto against Gender Violence (all persons attending the event will receive a gift from the Department of Social Welfare).

Finally, on Sunday November 26 will close the events of the V Week Against Gender Violence Castalla with two shows. At 17.00 hours, free theater ‘Invisible’ in the auditorium of the Casa de Cultura. Later, at 19.00 hours, musical performance ‘Nosotras’ in the Municipal Auditorium.

On the other hand, during the week will also be carried out various proposals in local schools. Red Cross will carry out activities for primary and secondary school students under the slogan ‘Scars with their own voice. Let’s make violence visible’. In addition, the magazine ‘Somos niños y niñas, ¿Nos escucháis?’ will be distributed to primary school children in all the centers.

In addition, it has also been activated from the Department of Public Safety collaboration between the forces and law enforcement present in the municipality
-Guardia Civil and Local Police- in order that the Local Police is fully incorporated into the assistance to victims of gender violence. The Civil Guard has tools for control and monitoring of everything related to violence against women, and the incorporation of the Local Police is intended to increase the number of police officers involved in the fight against this scourge.

However, the coordinator of Social Welfare, Monica Martinez, explained that “in the department work throughout the year to help women victims of gender violence and help end this social scourge. However, said Martinez, “it is clear that the V Week against Gender Violence allows us to make this problem visible and make the public aware of the values of equality and non-violence that we defend in Social Services”.
