Castalla Town Council has hired a technical staff to attract and manage European funds. The incorporation has been carried out thanks to a grant of 33,261.54 euros from the Generalitat Valenciana through LABORA, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The contract has a duration of one year, valid until 31 December 2023, and will help the Consistory to benefit from the Next Generation EU financial instrument, which aims at the sustainable economic recovery of European countries and their autonomous communities under parameters of social justice.

In this regard, the Councillor for Finance, Gema Sánchez, has highlighted the multiple benefits of this incorporation. “The recruitment of this specialised post allows Castalla to access important aid from Europe, process the subsidies and manage the money we receive, all with the aim of accelerating economic recovery and strengthening our business fabric”. According to the councillor, “through the European Next Generation funds and their investments we will be able to promote projects necessary for the improvement of our town in many areas”.

Specifically, the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan for Spain contemplates actions within four axes: ecological transition, digital transformation, social and territorial cohesion, and gender equality. These guidelines outline the main lines that will determine the future evolution of the country after the impact of the health, social and economic crisis generated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Castalla is already working on the Urban Agenda project, within the framework of the 2030 Agenda, an initiative that is reinforced with this recruitment.

Thanks to the recruitment of these technical profiles, local entities can form a network of local nodes, formed by graduates, who will be responsible for attracting and managing European funds in the territory. This technical profile will also be in charge of advising the business fabric of Castelló to help it attract the greatest possible number of European funds. This is a task that, due to its characteristics, requires certain knowledge and resources that not all town councils have on their staff.

The Next Generation have structural and competitive funds. The Councillor for Finance, Gema Sánchez, explained that “to benefit from this second type of aid, the competitive funds, it is essential to have teams that allow the greatest possible amount of funding, as the municipalities compete for them”.
