The bullfighting world is once again the protagonist in Castalla. The town celebrates the Mig Any de Vaca with a weekend full of activities. The Town Council has presented a full programme for the 10th, 11th and 12th February, in collaboration with the La Paloma bull-breeding company. In this way, the capital of La Foia celebrates the fact that there are only six months to go until its long-awaited cow fiestas in honour of San Roque.

The mayor of Castalla, Antonio Bernabeu, declared that “the Mig Any de Vaca is the prelude to our bullfighting festivities and we celebrate it with a weekend full of festivities for the enjoyment of all audiences”. Thus, explained the mayor, “during the weekend many people who are fond of cow releases come to our city in order to enjoy their hobby and do it together with the rest of castelluts i castelludes”.

Specifically, the municipal programme of activities is distributed as follows: On Friday 10 February, the events begin with the official opening of the photo exhibition of the 2022 cow competition at 20:00 hours in the Casa de Cultura. Afterwards, the prizes will be awarded to the best photos of the celebration. In the evening, from 00:00 until 2:00 in the morning, the first release of heifers will take place from the placeta El Carreter, the epicentre of all the activities.

The release of heifers will be repeated on Saturday 11 February at 18:00 hours, also lasting two hours, and at night, between 00:00 and 2:00 hours on Sunday 12 February. The last release of heifers will take place on the same Sunday at 18:00. In total, there will be four releases of heifers so that all bullfighting fans can enjoy these races in front of the bulls through the streets of the city.

On the other hand, Saturday morning is for the little ones with a programme of children’s events. From 10:00 hours they will be able to enjoy inflatables on the esplanade of the Casa de Cultura until midday. At 12:00 hours it will be the turn of the children’s bull run and the carretón competition. The route will be from Toriles to the Casa de Cultura.

The mayor of Castalla, Antonio Bernabeu, has taken the opportunity to invite fans from neighbouring towns to the Mig Any de Vaca, “to experience with us one of the most beloved festivals of our city, which stands out for its welcoming and inclusive spirit, which pleases all the people who visit us”.
