Castalla receives 314,755 euros in aid from the Generalitat to carry out improvements in the historic centre

Castalla Town Council has received a grant of 314,755.86 euros from the Department of Housing and Bioclimatic Architecture of the Generalitat Valenciana through the Pla Conviure to carry out improvements in the historic centre. The aim is to build a single platform and refurbish the streets of the old town to improve accessibility. These actions are part of the Rehabilitation Strategy for the Built Environment of Castalla.

As explained by the councillor for Town Planning, Raquel Guill, “the works in the historic centre seek to adapt this area of the municipality to the demands of the population and the requirements of current regulations and make it accessible to all pedestrians, as there are currently many architectural barriers due to the characteristics of our historic centre”.

Thus, the construction of a single platform in the streets of the historic centre will help to make the area more accessible for pedestrians, put an end to the unevenness and improve vehicle traffic on these roads. Due to its origin as a medieval historic centre, the old town of Castalla has very irregular road sections. For years, the Town Council has been developing different actions to improve accessibility with actions on stairs or slopes in these neighbourhoods.

For his part, the mayor, Antonio Bernabeu, stressed that “the improvement works in the old town are planned in the Rehabilitation Strategy of the Built Environment of Castalla, a project on which the City Council has been working for years”. The mayor explained that “from the Consistory we strive to improve the quality of life of the residents of the historic centre of the city, which is one of our most emblematic areas”.

Implementation of the Rehabilitation Strategy of the Built Environment of Castalla

The Town Council is implementing the Rehabilitation Strategy for the Built Environment of Castalla in accordance with the document. Thus, the plan includes seven lines of action such as the installation of new trees, street furniture and improved accessibility in the Ensanche area; improvements in Aljibe street; accessibility improvements in the old town; the implementation of new green areas; the conservation and improvement of historical heritage; energy efficiency actions in the urban environment and the maintenance of road signs.
